Repurposing your jewellery
Repurposing jewellery
Our brand’s core principle is to ensure no jewellery goes to waste or is left unworn. Whether you have inherited an unworn family heirloom or have a meaningful gemstone in your possession, we can repurpose your jewellery and transform it into something new. We've made a promise to ourselves to continuously look for new ways to do better as a small business. Minimising waste and choosing high quality, durable materials to work with are a key part of our journey towards a more sustainable future.
REPURPOSING YOUR JEWELLERY.
At Maya Magal we strive to ensure that no jewellery goes to waste or gets left unworn. We’ve made a promise to ourselves to continuously look for new ways to do better as a small business and repurposing jewellery is a key part of our journey towards a more sustainable future. We love being given the opportunity to breathe new life into family heirlooms or to transform gemstones with special meaning into pieces that are perfect for you. We always work with high quality, recycled metals to create jewellery with minimal environmental impact.
SUSTAINABLE
JEWELLERY MAKING.
Up-cycling and repurposing jewellery is one of the most sustainable ways of jewellery making. Working with recycled metals, we reduce the demand for new metals and, as a result, we reduce our carbon footprint. Working with repurposed gemstones also means we are able to limit the social and environmental impact of mining.
To craft our bespoke creations and our limited creative collections we use 100% recycled solid gold and sterling silver in our zero waste London workshops.
HOW DOES
IT WORK?
The bespoke design process begins with an initial virtual or in-person consultation with our Studio Design Manager Nathan. After assessing your old jewellery and finalising your new design, our jewellers will melt the precious metal to start the process of transforming it into your new piece.
Any gemstones you provide will also be checked by our specialist artisans to ensure they are suitable for your design. Once confirmed, they can be re-set to become the focal point of a beautiful, contemporary piece, crafted just for you. We also have our own selection of conflict-free, responsibly sourced gemstones to complement your design. To craft our bespoke creations and our limited creative collections we use 100% recycled solid gold and sterling silver in our zero waste London workshops.
OLD CUT
GEMSTONES.
If you don’t have a special gemstone to repurpose but still want to incorporate more sustainable materials in your design, you can choose a gemstone from our old-cut gemstone selection. These stones have been brought back into circulation by our local suppliers and are often completely unique due to their unusual and rare facet patterns.
Available in everything from colourless bright whites to deep and vibrant shades, these gemstones help to reduce the negative impact on the environment caused by excess mining, making them a responsible choice for your bespoke piece.

After your initial consultation with our Studio Design Manager Nathan, our jewellers will start working on your piece. In the case of an unworn precious or antique piece of jewellery, our jewellers can melt the metal and transform it into something more modern or wearable. Any gemstones can be re-set and become the focal part of a beautiful design, after they have been checked by our specialist artisans to make sure they are suitable. We can also use a new stone or provide accent stones to accompany your own, to create a new design.

Rather than sourcing a new stone or using your own stone, we can use old-cut stones we have on offer in our Islington workshop. As these are stones that have been brought back into circulation by our suppliers, they might have more unusual facet patterns which make for a completely unique gemstone. Using these old-cut stones, available in colourless white to bright colours, helps us to avoid any impacts of mining on the environment - a sustainable and environmentally friendly way of jewellery making.
